A car accident involving a Black Nissan salon car with registration number BDG 91 BX and a silver Toyota Highlander has left two persons
injured.

It was learnt that the accident, which occurred around Stadium area of Surulere on Monday afternoon, caused traffic congestion on both sides of Stadium bus-stop as motorists resorted to driving against traffic.

Giving an account of the incident, Jerryson, who was a witness, told News reporters that the Nissan driver was at fault; “The Toyota highlander was coming from Stadium bus-stop while the Nissan was coming from under the bridge, and the traffic light beamed red for the Nissan to stop while on the other  side of the road, the traffic light beamed green for the Toyota Highlander to move but due to the speed at which the Nissan was moving, it collided with the Toyota Highlander and fell off the road to the flower garden area,” he said.

Jerryson urged traffic marshals to enlighten motorist on the use of traffic lights.

The owner of the Toyota Highlander, who spoke to News reporters, identified himself as Noah.

“I was coming out from stadium trying to navigate to Shitta, as soon as the green light beamed for me to move, I slowly did that and the driver of the Nissan was on high speed, not minding the traffic light stopping him, and he ran into my car,” he said.

“I was hoping he was going to slow down since the traffic light from his own side of the road was on red. I’m happy no life was lost, just that the passengers in the Nissan sustained minor injuries.”

Policemen attached to the Surulere Police Division and some Lastma officials were seen at the scene of the accident making efforts to decongest the heavy traffic jam caused by the accident.

A senior police officer who did not disclose his name, said, “Only an elderly man sustained injury and he has been rushed to a nearby hospital where he is receiving treatment.”

The officer said investigations are on to determine who was at fault.

  1. Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that.
