Coach Stephen Keshi has quashed talks suggesting he is considering Nigeria’s new football wonder kid Kelechi Iheanacho for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Big Boss, who was speaking on a live sports programme on Brila FM, on Monday, said that Iheanacho could not be rushed into the national team on the strength of just his performance at the last cadet mundial in the United Arab Emirates, as he would need to mature and improve his game first.

“Iheanacho is a good player but he just finished U-17, he has to play in a team and progress. You can’t just pick him from U-17 straight to the senior team, it’s not done,” the Eagles Coach explained.

“He (Iheanacho) has to gain experience. His performance in U17 is not a guarantee that he walks straight to the senior team; it doesn’t work that way, he has to keep playing and improving.”

Iheanacho finished as the Most Valuable Player at the last U17 World Cup and also scooped the second highest goal scorer’s award, a development that has seen him being chased by a legion of top European clubs with some reports suggesting that Manchester City has snapped the talented youngster.
