Boko Haram attacks Air Force Base & International Airport in Borno as military declares 24 hour curfew

Suspected memebers of the Boko Haram sect on Monday morning, attacked the Composite Group Air force Base and international airport among other places in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. The attack  which started at about 3am shook the town as sporadic gunshots and other Rocket Propelled Launchers fire were heard, with airstrikes in Maiduguri and Jere metropolis till 8 am.

Sources said during the attacks on the air force base and other places including the Maiduguri international airport, several people were killed as the terrorists numbering over 300 planted explosive in targeted areas in the state capital.

Also attacked are, the newly constructed trailer parks along Damaturu- Maiduguri road, military check points and other residential and public buildings, which according to the source led to the death of many people among the terrorists and security agencies.

An eye witness who resides in Gomari airport area, just few metres away to the air force base, said, " I saw 5 military operational vehicles conveying dead bodies to the hospital at about 6am, the dead bodies were suspected to be security agents killed during the attack".

Meanwhile, the Borno government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Maiduguri metropolis following the attack by the suspected members of the Boko Haram sect in some parts of the state capital.

Alhaji Ahmed Jidda the Secretary to the State Government, announced the decision in a statement released to newsmen in Maiduguri.

The statement said that the curfew was imposed in consultation with the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri.

“During the period of curfew, government pleads with all citizens to remain calm.

“Only vehicles on emergency calls and essential services are allowed to move while the curfew will be lifted as soon as situation improves,” it added.
