Transfer Talk: Four players Chelsea could sign instead of Wayne Rooney

It’s no longer news of Chelsea's intent desire to sign arguably England's best current player and spearhead, Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney.
However, why Chelsea and Jose Mourinho have publicly said that he is in fact their only target and they won't be attempting to sign anyone else - even if the move does not materialise - does not make much sense to other footballer lovers.
Chelsea are in dire need of a top quality front man with the proven track record of scoring goals, Wayne Rooney sounds perfect right...what if it doesn't work?
Here are a list of what I believe to be the best alternatives, even if they're not the most marketable...
Luis Suarez:
Perhaps the striker that divides opinion most in the entire Premier League, some say he's a genius, others an overrated diving cheat.
However, the man does possess incredible talent and the ability to win games single handedly.
Would he be a fit with Chelsea? If we end up having trouble luring him to Stamford Bridge we could always use Branislav Ivanovic as bait.
Cost - £45+ million
Age - 26
Predicted goal return - 20
Dimitar Berbatov:
This one is mainly dependant the speed at which Romelu Lukaku can develop and become the top class centre forward his potential indicates, as it is only a short term fix.
He's the oldest on my list and again, divides opinion, sometimes lazy, however, possesses the skill and hold up play Chelsea and the quality of our midfield could thrive off of.
With him providing a fall back if Lukaku isn't producing, his experience and goal getting could become an integral part of the Chelsea team for the short term.
As a player who has never relied on pace, his football brain could in fact see him play for at least four-five years.
Cost - £5-10 million
Age - 32
Predicted goal return - 10
Robert Lewandowski:
Perhaps the most lethal finisher in football today, an old fashioned number 9, good in the air, can finish with both feet, great movement as well as a worker for the team.
The Poland international could turn Chelsea from title hopefuls to odds on favourites, the goals he gets could elevate Chelsea's chances in all major competitions.
He is a player who does need service though, but with the likes of Mata and Hazard backing him up this would probably not be an issue and the goals would most likely flow.
The only thing about this one is the fact that most informed people would say he is on his way to Bayern next summer, so might not be a viable solution, still wouldn't hurt to bid.
Cost - £30-40 million
Age - 24
Predicted Goal Return - 30
Nikica Jelavic:
An out and out finisher, probably the poor man's Lewandowski.
A lot of his goals come instantly and are one touch, but he lacks pace.
He would cost a great deal less than most of the other candidates, however, his form for Everton was not great, with the service behind him, he could still prove a shrewd purchase should Mourinho go for the less fancied marksman
Cost - £4-8 million
Age - 27
Predicted Goal Return - 15
