Man sentenced to 10-hour community service for stealing phones

An Abule Egba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced Ibrahim Adebayo, 20, to ten hours of community service for stealing two phones valued N50,000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, sentenced Adebayo, following his guilty plea.
“You are hereby sentenced to ten hours of community service, and I hope this will serve as deterrent to others,” he said.
Elias advised the convict to desist from such acts in future.
Adebayowho is a tiler and lives at Railway line, Abule Egba, was arraigned on a count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Rachael Williams told the court that the convict committed the offence on July 8 at Dopemu Bus-Stop, Alimosho.
“The accused removed a Blackberry and L.G. phones from the pocket of one Zainab Babangida, while she was trying to board a bus,” williams said.
She said the offence committed contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
She applied for the summary trial of the accused after he pleaded guilty. (NAN)
