Commercial driver fleeing from FRSC crashes into gutter in Abuja

A commercial motorist yesterday crashed into gutter while trying to escape arrest by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) along Abaji-Zuba expressway.

The driver, identified as Lawal Olamineku, was conveying four passengers to Zuba from Gwagwalada in a Carina II car with registration number, RBC 681 JL when the incident happened.

City News gathered that the driver, with a fake drivers’ license, while trying to escape arrest from the FRSC officials, lost control of the car and veered off the road. “Immediately he sighted the Road Safety officials, he wanted to dodge them through another route but found himself inside the gutter,” a witness said, adding that nobody in the car was injured.

City News further learnt that the driver who was arrested immediately, confessed that the fake driving license was issued to him by an FRSC official in Suleja for N12,000, adding that he had once been arrested by a FRSC official in Zuba who told him that the license was fake.

The Zuba Unit Commander of the FRSC, Muta’a Chorrie, described as embarrassing the claim by the driver that it was an FRSC official that issued him the fake driving license. He however assured that investigation would be carried out to ascertain if the driver’s claim was true and that the culprit would be sanctioned.
