Nigeria Slides down in Latest FIFA Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped to 35th position in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday for the month of July.


Nigeria played five matches in June, won two, lost twice and recorded a solitary draw.
The African champions finished in 31st spot in the previous ranking.

Ivory Coast maintained their 13th position and the continent's highest ranked nation for the month with 1009 points.

Mali, Algeria and Nigeria occupied the third, fourth and fifth position respectively on the continent.

Ghana slipped three spot to 24th despite two wins in the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Sudan and Lesotho last month.

Ghana's 830 points garnered keep them behind Chile, USA and France but still remains Africa's second best country.

Brazil leapt 13 places to ninth after their stunning victory over Spain in the FIFA Confederations Cup final last Sunday.

However, Spain held on to top spot ahead of Germany while Colombia climbed four places to a personal best of third thanks to some impressive performances in the World Cup qualifiers.

FIFA took into account, 16 FIFA Confederations Cup games, 89 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and 29 friendlies.
