Lagos: House of Assembly Commences Inspection of LGs Capital Projects
16:05UnknownThe Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Public Account (Local) has commenced the inspection of capital projects of Local Government through the report of the Auditor- General for local governments.
According to the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Saka Fafunmi, the two-week exercise, which is taking place at the House of Assembly Complex is meant to properly monitor and guide the progress of capital projects in the 20 Local Government Areas and the 37 Local Council Development Areas within the state.
According to Hon. Fafunmi, “we have evaluated the Local Government councils and we have come out with a resolution that if we want a different results, we need a more pragmatic approach, that is why we have decided to include the Heads of Units to be part of the representation.”
Hon. Fafunmi concluded that this move was also to improve the public performance of Local Government to further earn the trust of the grassroot.
A member of the committee, Hon. Bisi Yusuf in his words said: “You should endeavour to come along with all the Heads of unit even if the query does not concern some of them as this will ensure that all Heads realise that they have to be accountable for their beat and can be called upon at any time.
Local Government and Local Council Development Areas that appeared before the House today are, Agege LG; Bariga LCDA, Ayobo/Ipaja LCDA ,Apapa LG and Amuwo-Odofin LG.
The councils were however, asked to re-appear at another date during the week with all the Heads of their Units.
The exercise is expected to last for two weeks.
