New Africa Magazine recently unveiled its 2013 list of the most powerful people in Africa. Nigeria leads the way as the country which has the highest number of influential figures, taking up a
whopping 23% of the list with an incredibly wide spread over all categories, as well as dominating the business scene. Next is South Africa, taking up 22% of the list
According to press release sent out, the list is all about “the powerful, the rich, the fastest, the first” as well as “spiritual leaders, political game changers, global superstars and a slew of sporting record breakers to rival the world’s best”.

According to the Magazine, “One yardstick we used was to emphasise that influence is not about popularity and popularity is not always influential. The influencer’s impact on public, social and political discourse, however, is what largely helps us determine their influence. Over the next few pages, you will find a breadth and wealth of Africans of all nationalities and ages, both women and men, whose actions and reach, we have determined, significantly impacted and realigned the continent’s landscape in their fields of endeavour. They contributed in redefining the African narrative in 2013 and we feel they will play a big role in 2014 - hopefully, for Africa’s good.”
