21 year old Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola was crowned the Miss Muslimah World in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday 18th September 2013.

The beauty competition in its 3rd year, is organised by the World Muslimah Foundation -  a women’s group – which is a direct opposition to the Miss World competition set to take place in Bali, Indonesia on Saturday 28th September 2013.

MBGN 2013 Anna Ebiere Banner is representing Nigeria.

Speaking to reporters, Obabiyi said she never envisioned she will win the competition which is exclusively for Muslim women, who are assessed not only their appearance (in Islamic dress) but also their piety, religious knowledge and understanding of the Koran.

The contest received over 500 applications online, and after a rigorous screening exercise 20 finalists were chosen.

After being announced winner, Obabiyi knelt down, recited the Koran and praised her God. She was a awarded a prize money of £1,365 and trips to Mecca and India.
