CAF names Nigeria as 2013 Glo-CAF Awards host

The 2013 CAF Award will be hosted in Lagos, Nigeria, on January 9, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced.The event is coming back to Lagos after five years while the last two editions, 2011 and 2012, held in Accra, Ghana.

The award rewards football stakeholders on the continent in 13 categories among which the most prestigious African Player of the Year Award currently held by Ivoirian ace Yaya Toure who equally won the previous edition while Egypt’s Mohammed Aboutrieka holds that of the best player based in Africa.

Apart from the African Footballer of the Year, there are twelve categories of the awards to be bestowed on outstanding football personalities which includes;  African Player of the Year - Based in Africa,  National Team of the Year, Women’s National Team of the Year,  Club of the Year,  CAF Fair Play Award,  Coach of the Year,   Most Promising talent,  Women’s Footballer of the Year,  Referee of the Year,  CAF Legend,  Africa Fines XI and the CAF Platinum Award set aside to honour some legends on the continent.

Nigeria continues its 11 years wait for a successor to Kanu Nwankwo who last wore the prestigious crown for the country way back in 1999.

The most titled African players are Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o and Ghanaian legend Abedi Pelé with four titles each while Liberia’s George Weah is third with three titles.
