Information reaching us from Port Harcourt indicates that unknown gun men shot the Rivers  State Sports Commissioner, Hon. Fred Igwe.
Barely 24 hours after his suspension from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside seventeen others, Honourable Fred Igwe, the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports has been shot in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Though details of the shooting are still unclear, Fred, according to reports from the state was shot this afternoon in the oil city. He is presently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at an undisclosed hospital in the city.

The Rivers State Police spokesperson, Angela Agabe confirmed the shooting to the media.

The motive for the shooting is however unclear.

Rivers State has been engulfed in all possible shades of political crisis since the suspension of state governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi from the party by the national headquarters.
